Following the Fortifications at RIsk Conference at Fort Brockhurst on 5th September 2025 we are planning a weekend of related study visits in Gosport and Portsmouth.

This study tour is open to FSG and Palmerston Forts Society members and invited guests.

Saturday 6th September - Gosport

  • Stokes Bay Lines/ Diving Museum/ Battery No 2
  • Battery No 5 and Browndown Battery
  • Forts Rowner and Grange 
  • Gosport Lines/ De Gomme lines 
  • Priddy's Hard ramparts/ Firepower

We are planning to organise an optional pub meal in the evening during which we will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the FSG. This will be at additional cost paid at the venue. 

Sunday 7th September - Portsmouth 

  • Forts Widley and Purbrook
  • Eastney Battery East and Eastney Battery 
  • Hot Walls, Square Tower
  • Kings Bastion 
  • Lumps Fort
  • Fort Cumberland  

Monday 8th September

We are not planning an organised programme. For those wishing to stay in the area for another day there are many military history themed sites open to the public nearby. For example Fort Nelson, the Historic Dockyard, the D-Day Museum etc.   

Deposit 

To confirm your place please book your ticket below. The costs cover entry charges and donations to the sites we are visiting. We are terming this a deposit but are hopeful that it will be the final cost unless there are any, as yet unknown, expenses. 

You will need to make your own arrangements for accommodation and transport. We will facilitate car sharing for those without their own car.
